The night we arrived in Seville, we were taken to a "special dinner" courtesy of Trafalgar. The meal started in the courtyard with a dancing horse. There was a fancy dancer who interacted with the horse, much beyond anything I ever imagined; I would have been terrified that the horse would have stepped on me. The meal was a traditional Spanish feast of paella.
After that, I went to a Flamenco performance. It was intense; the women and men looked so angry on the stage, glaring at each other and staring at the audience. There was one young boy, probably upper teens, who kept trying to keep "the look" but failed miserably, he kept laughing and cracking a smile, so that was amusing. The one dance I really enjoyed was the fan dance.
I celebrated Christmas Eve touring the city of Seville. A lot of the main sights closed early because of the holiday, but I was able to see a lot. First we stopped by the Maria Luisa Park, complete with fountains, ponds and pavilions. There was even a lion statue in the center.
After that we walked to the main cathedral where Christopher Columbus is buried, after being moved a few times throughout history. Inside the ceilings were fantastic, the paintings were spectacular and the organ was beautiful.
Our guided tour ended here, so Brenda and I wandered to the bull fighting museum. It is an oval shaped ring with seats all around. There are tickets for the sun section and the shade section, prices varying based on the temperature. There were costumes inside, paintings and different bull fighting items.
The day warmed up nicely, a bit odd to have Christmas without snow, for a long walk back to the hotel. A group of us planned a "potluck" Christmas dinner that evening, so to the huge grocery store we went. I couldn't believe how large this store was. I have gotten so used to my little grocery store Coop down the street, this place I could have gotten lost in. We picked up some oranges, grapes, cookies and sparkling juice for the evening. The dinner was a huge hit, especially considering we made everything without the use of a microwave or an oven. There were peppers with humus, varieties of fruit, miniature sandwiches, cheese, snack chips, artichoke dip and cookies. A delicious meal!
