Prima settimana di scuola (first week of school)

The first week of school is complete. I have attended three of the five classes I will have this term. The University of Bologna has a different system than Carnegie Mellon; our class schedules change every week, so I have to keep up with it. I do like the schedule though because it is always changing, keeping me on my toes and adding some variety with the differences.

Management of Film looks like it will be a fantastic class, very challenging in the creative sense. Our first project is to come up with an idea for a film that has never been created before, but it can be based on a book, an article or something of the sort. I have chosen a book originally designed for youth aged 9 to 12 but grew to the teenage and adult population, and no I am not talking about Harry Potter, since the movies have already been created and presented for it. It is a story about four children who become members of a secret society; they set out on a dangerous adventure to overcome a person whose plan is to control the people of the world and imprison his enemies.

Management of Scientific Institutions is expanding my knowledge of how the creative industries and the world of science should merge but do not and the reasons as to why they don't, very surprising information. It is challenging me in more ways than I can describe, especially since I have not attended a science class in years and the basics of science are far from my recent memory.

Sociology of Culture is a yet-to-be-determined class. We attended the first class but due to an unfortunate turn of events our professor was unable to attend class due to personal health problems, so we only gained a view of the TA's teaching style. Classes will resume next week and we will be scheduled a make-up class for this past Tuesday. After a quick overview of the syllabus, the supplemental course material looks great and I am excited to read the articles he has selected for the term.

The two other courses I have this term are Analytical Customer Relationship Management and Regional Cultural Policies. I am hoping Analytical CRM will aid in further developing my skill sets in marketing. The other should be interesting as it is something brand new, like many of the courses we are being offered here.

That wraps up my school week. My life here remains busy, bits of exploring, stopping in stores, lots of eating and just overall enjoyment intertwined into my daily routine.
