One of the last places on my itinerary was the Basilica di Superga, which is about 50 minutes by bus from Turin.
The mountain where the Basilica is was the site of the airplane crash of the Grande Torino football team; at the back of the church along the walkway is a large monument honoring them.
The outside of the church is beautiful, as most are in Italy; such ornate structures.
Inside there was a service just finishing, so I was able to hear the pipe organ; beautiful, sweet sounds filled the space, it was wonderful just listening to the organist play songs, one after another.
Back in town, I stopped at the cioccolato festival, complete with a fuzzy purple cow promoting Milka chocolate. It wasn't as exciting of a festival as the one in Bologna, I felt it was an extremely commercial display with wrapped chocolates and brands rather than fun shapes and homemade "secret" recipes. The chocolates were still delicious though, I enjoyed a chocolate wafer bar.
The Palazzo Madama, located in the main square, is the site of one of the Royal Palaces. In front of the building is a monument to the Sardinian troops.
To the left of the Palazzo is the Palazzo Reale, the Royal Palace of Turin. Inside the rooms were filled with tapestries and paintings, plus magnificent furniture. Walking through the ballroom I was able to imagine it filled with people dancing around in circles with elegant ball gowns. The garden to the palace was closed when I visited, but I saw other parks in the city, so I wasn't disappointed.
This was the last stop of my trip to Torino, overall, a great visit, lots and lots of food; definitely a city I recommend!
