A surprising turn of events happened with my mom being able to come visit me for a week and a half. We only spent a day in Bologna, allowing her to see my apartment, visit the town center, and enjoy some tasty gelato. The morning following her arrival we sped off to Switzerland via the small town of Spiez. We switched trains there and decided that we might as well take advantage of seeing the town, wandering the streets and catching a glimpse of the Medieval Castle, not open for the tourist season yet. The view from the train station of the city was beautiful with the mountains and the castle in the background.
A funny little statue was in front of a house, just sitting there like a small child or something.
It was neat being able to see the castle preparations happening as tourist season was right around the corner when we were visiting. I think they were set to open the weekend of Good Friday.
The house beside the castle had a fantastic mural on the front wall. I was happy to be able to capture the images quite well with my little camera.
At the lake, mom and I did a bit of water watching and I caught sight of a swan. The swan did not want its picture taken, swimming away from me, quite quickly as well. The marina was quiet while we were visiting only one or two boats out sailing. If we had arrived a few weeks later, we could have taken a boat across to Interlaken, our next stop, instead of the train.
One of the areas of the town had statues galore, it was in front of a fancy hotel, statues inside their courtyard and across the street. My favorite is the children's band, especially the child with the cymbals at the back.
Luckily we didn't arrive too early to miss the flowers, blossoming signifying the arrival of Spring this year. Overall it was the perfect town to make a mini stop between trains on our way from Italy to Switzerland.

hee hee i like the child band : )
